Recently I read that it take up to 43 wedding professionals of all types to help a bride have one perfect day. Imagine that. 43 people, at least, if you add in the assistants, helpers and such. That’s more than a football team- they only have 11 players on the field. The question I have for you is: where’s your playbook?
Organized Conflict
It’s kinda fun to make the comparison between a football team and a wedding. What with Thanksgiving tomorrow. You see, both are examples of organized conflict. On the gridiron, teammates work together to achieve their goal- a touchdown. In wedding planning, you’re doing your part- whether a planner, caterer, facilities manager or officiant- in a diverse team to achieve a goal, too. A glorious day.
What does the football team have that wedding professionals should consider? A playbook.
I grew up with a father who got two daughters and no sons, so I know a little about football. I remember picking my team by how much I liked the uniforms. Embarrassing but come on, I was 13. Anyway, a playbook (my hubby tells me) is a list of plays that the team can run. You know, the running game. The passing game. I tend to think of it as a list of plans for several different scenarios.
You see where I’m going with this, right? You need a playbook. Your set of solutions for whatever wedding whatnot comes your way. Now, I realize you probably already have a plan- could you honestly call yourself a planner without one??? But is it written down? Entirely?? Or is it mainly in your head. Can your plan be shared with your other teammates?
Weddings are full of drama, misunderstandings and issues. You know that. People don’t talk. They assume. They guess. They project. Best way to reduce stress is to have a playbook and share it. Things might not go entirely by your book. Still, the conversations you’ll have will be invaluable for building a sense of team work, rapport, and most importantly, confidence. Especially when you don’t know the new tight end all that well. And, avoiding mishaps is an absolutely must. Be open to hearing his or her playbook, too. You never know when you’ll discover something great!
Of course, your playbook can include anything you want. Hey, why not share any playbook tips right here!
