What’s Positively Wed all About?

by Dina on November 11, 2009

If imitation is the most sincere form of  flattery, then I’m crushing on Michelle Loretta of SageWeddingPros.  First, I love her concept.  Having dealt with many solopreneurs and micro small businesses over my 18 years as a business mediator, I know how important it is to have the fundamentals in place: a business plan, a marketing plan and operations plan.  Not the fun stuff, true.  But doing these pieces allows you to get to the fun stuff and enjoy it with less stress.  Recently, Michele brought some of the top thought leaders in the wedding biz together to share their knowledge at a business planning workshop called Simple Plan. Worth your time, believe me.

Chockful of useful checklists and articles, what I love most about Michele’s blog is how friendly and personable it is.  I really feel like I’m talking with her when I read it.  That’s something I struggle with- writing casually and sharing my own thoughts.  I’m kinda reserved after years of working in a corporate arena where my abilities to be neutral, discreet and non-offensive were prized.  So, I’m gonna do something radical for a neutral- have an opinion!  I tried it out on the momzilla post.  Let me know what you think.

What’s Positively Wed About, really?

I’m also going to share my plans for Positively Wed.  My purpose in life is pretty simple: help people feel hopeful.  Here’s my mission:

Positively Wed is dedicated to  bringing joy, connection and meaning back to the wedding industry.  We’re devoted to teaching wedding professionals and brides

  • conflict and communications tools that help them find creative, workable solutions
  • to better explore and understand their own emotions, motivations and goals and those of others
  • to master the power of collaboration and discussion
  • how to have a happier, drama-free wedding experience

The wedding biz  for me is all about making connections between people.  Wedding folks use their creativity, whether as a planner, caterer, florist or invitation designer, to build amazing experiences and memories that forge true connection between family and friends.  It’s so much easier to do that when you’re conflict-competent and comfortable dealing with the charged emotions that come with planning that special day.  Getting up for work turns into a joy, not a burden.

Next year, look for new ebooks, email courses, and teleconferences.  Right now I’m gathering information on what to create.  You can help out! Click Here to take survey or attending the next Brideability Summit tomorrow (Thursday, 11/12).  It’s free.  My way of paying it forward.

If I had a magic wand, what would you want me to create to help you fall back in love with wedding planning?
