“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”` Calvin Coolidge
I love this quote. It actually holds the key to success for me, and perhaps you. As you plan your wedding there are bound to be issues and obstacles that get in your way. Your preferred venue is booked. The fire marshal banned your candles. You only have 5 days to get your wedding gown and fit it because a vendor went out of business. Stuff happens.
What makes the difference between having a happy wedding and, well, something else is your ability to persist in achieving your goal. You don’t have to have ‘the answer’. What you need is a will to find an answer that addresses interests and goals.
For my wedding I wanted to be married while cruising. Romantic, huh? I thought Cozumel would be a great location until fate challenged me. Because of the NAFTA negotiations, Mexico had adjusted their rules for weddings on their shores. Instead of the quick ceremony, the rules were so unclear that we risked missing the cruise ship if we deboarded and wedded in Mexico. Did that mean I couldn’t have a destination wedding? Heck no!
Research and patience revealed that weddings in Grand Cayman were easier to arrange. True, there was a lot of faxing and paperwork, but we were wed beachside at a charming restaurant and still made it back to the ship on time. Why?
Because I remembered Popeye. He faced so many obstacles and challenges rescuing Olive Oil but always prevailed. Once he took his spinach he was invincible. That’s the lesson for us. Whatever you need to do to feel capable, strong, persistent and invincible, do it. (Spinach optional) Because in the end, determination (along with kindness) always win.
How have you bested wedding challenges?
