When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. ~ Helen Keller
This quote hit the spot for me this morning. I love it when a spark of inspiration or comfort finds its way to me at exactly the moment I need it. Feels warm like someone is looking out for me. That’s what I hope these Monday posts can become for you. A moment to stop, refresh and be re-energized.
When you hold a dream in your heart, love it, nurture it and will it into being, it can be devastating when a piece of it decides to go awol. Like the wrong color table linens. Or your venue is under renovation and might not be done in time.
—-post update—-
I’d fully intended to tie up that thought with something pithy when life offered a much more profound ending. Today, I’m so sad to say that our family lost a young friend. This school friend, who my daughter called her little sister, died unexpectedly last night.
What a girl. She was a freshman in college. Like a lightening bug on a July night, you could see her spirit, drive, and future shining so brightly. All our prayers for peace and healing are with her family. And, if you could, please send yours, too.
What can I say about seeing a new opening, an opportunity, now in the face of this? Knowing that my daughter suffered a similar loss the this time last year. What do I say to her? Just what I know and believe.
To my darling Lovely,
Life will never look the same to you. That’s an unchangeable fact. This happened unfairly, wrongly…yes. It hurts and will hurt for a while. I won’t say it didn’t happen for a reason. Everything happens for the best. Whether we know it or not. Want it or not. Understand it or not. It’s important to know that we can’t control our lives only how we choose to live them. Choose hope, growth, joy.
I choose to embrace that path and the inevitable lesson waiting to be discovered. Some people not so much, and it’s sad to see. That, my sweet, is your choice now. Honor her by having a full, complex, exhilarating life (big and small l). Live every day happy to be where you are and looking for the opening, even when it’s tiny.
Thanks everyone for this indulgence and your good thoughts.
