Get Out of the Way!

by Dina on August 2, 2010

Mondays are universally disliked but I think every Monday is a new beginning, another chance to make your world into what you want and deserve.  This Monday  I’m sharing a post by Kathy Mallary  of Spirit Coaching with you because it really, really resonated with me. It’s about failure- one of my favorite topics.

failFailure is most certainly an option.   This notion of NOT allowing yourself to fail has merits, but I worry it’s gone too far, causing you to feel paralyzed by fear of being wrong.  And, once you get past failure, it often leads to the road to success.  Yet, we don’t push ourselves to – myself included.

I’ve put off moving forward on GlamaShoot!, my networking mashup of mini-makeover and headshot photo session because- well- I’m just gonna be honest- I didn’t want to hear the word no.

This project means so much to me.  it grew out of a very loving place- it’s a great big thank you to all the wedding pros I know- so I want it to success.  So what am I doing- sabotaging myself.  And I KNOW BETTER.   No is not the end; it’s an obstacle to be tackled head on or driven around.  Kathy said that so well in her post, at just the time I needed to hear it.

Right now you might be experiencing a lull in your wedding business and feeling stuck about how to deal with that obstacle.  I say be bold and do something, even if you fail.  Do what the universe has whispered in your ear now before she has to shout. While I go off to gather my sponsors, please take a moment to read and deeply consider what Kathy has to say, ok?

Getting Out of Your Own Way!

PS If you live in MA or surrounding areas and have a service or product you’d like to introduce to wedding pros at GlamaShoot!, you can apply to be in my Vendor Showcase.  Drop me a note.  I’m especially looking for clothing stylists, high end clothing or shoe stores as well as bridal vendors like beverage services, liquor companies and rental companies.

Hi Dina! Good job catching yourself resisting the “no”. When I was just starting out in biz, I was digging myself a rut in a similar spot — putting things off because I didn’t want to hear “no”. My coach at the time asked me “How many no’s do you typically get before you get a yes?” I think I said something like “Oh, maybe 10…” So she said “What if your goal this week is to get 30 no’s? That way, you’d have 3 new clients.” Talk about a paradigm shift! Kind of blew my socks off, if you know what I mean. But it totally freed me up to get into action.

Have fun with your bold actions this week! I bet you hear way more yes’s than no’s, too. =^)

I’m about to test that theory out, Kathy, and I think you’ll be right! You know, when I focus on the Rebalancing Conversation I get over this kind of insecurities pretty quickly. Thanks!
