Best Wedding Movie you ever saw?

by Dina on December 30, 2009

It’s cold as as witch’s teat, as my dad used to say.  Last night it got down into the teens!  So, we did the only reasonable thing to do.  My hubby, girlie (she’s home from NYU) and I cuddled up on the couch and watched movies.  Netflix is my savior during the winter, and if you haven’t already, get that Roku thing that lets you watch movies instantly from your Netflix queue.  So cool!

Anyway, we watched Rachel Getting Married It’s a moving commentary on loss, love and forgiveness in a family that’s about to celebrate at wedding.  The characters were so rich, especially Debra Winger, I wanted to know what happened to them next.  Bill Irwin as the hapless dad was great.  it’s a little rambly in some scenes but isn’t life like that too?

I even cried during the wedding ceremony just like in real life!  Naturally, I got to thinking about my favorite wedding films.  Father of the Bride (Steve Martin version) is so sweet and comic.  Maria’s gown  and processional from the Sound of Music is simply stunning.  Bride Wars was mean and wasted Anne Hathaway’s talents.  Hmmm, that’s all that comes to mind now.

What’s your favorite wedding movie and why?

Talk to you next year :-D
