Waiting for the gowns
Seeing joy in action is magical, and the Running of the Brides was no exception. What an event! I vividly remember tearing through the double doors at the old Filene’s Basement Downtown Crossing location, almost being crushed by the throng of women, who like me, wanted the perfect designer wedding dress for a very bargain price. My $3000 dress by the ‘it’ designer (this was cough-cough years ago) cost me a paltry $189! Saying that never gets old.
Brides today get an equally amazing value because the prices haven’t kept pace with inflation- starting at $249 and topping out at $699. I admit that seems like a lot in these times, but these ladies thought it was worth the wait, long wait. Rumor had it someone camped out at 4:30 am!
And, believe me when I tell you it was a party! Women came PREPARED! I saw every one of my hints on winning big being utilized: visionboards of the perfect dress; written instructions to teammates; one woman I saw brought her fiance for ‘muscle’. Laughter everywhere. Best of all were the costume. Yes, I said costumes. It reminded me of a Halloween party with a wedding theme.

Hi Dina,
I’m the Bride to be featured in your “day at the beach” shot. In the craziness of the day, I did not get a picture of me and my maid of honor with my camera. A picture of the 2 of us was about to be snapped when the line began to move forward.
Would it be possible for you to send me the original picture?
